My furniture is full of curves and lines that make it feel like a sculpture. I try to tread lightly and leave the planet in a better place than I found it. Most of my timber is local, mainly from windblown trees that I mill and dry myself.

May to July catch up

Again - quite some time since I jotted notes in the Diary.

And again - a busy few months, with my furniture dodging around the countryside to various events.
This started in May, with a prestigious event sponsored by Scottish Enterprise on "Scottish Textiles and Furniture" at the Clerkenwell Design week in London. Open to the public, this event is primarily aimed at designers and architects - and there are already interesting follow-ups for many of us who participated.

Following swiftly on its heels, was D&G's Spring Fling 2012. Not perhaps the kindest weather, and with all the many Jubilee Celebrations going on, numbers were slightly down this year. I was able to display (prior to their moving to Council Chambers) the antique Provost's robes - in the cabinet I designed and made specifically for them, from local yew.

This was followed by a quick trip to a very wet Royal Highland Show, where I assisted for a day promoting Spring Fling events.

I'm now building up for the Galloway Country Fair in August (see events)and then my final exhibition of the year with SFMA (Scottish Furniture Makers Association) at the Lighthouse in October - one of my cheval mirrors being gifted as a prize at this event.

Needless to say - all of these events are fitted in between the mainstay of what I actually do - designing and making furniture for my clients - who I should really call my friends, as they are ever patient with me and the inevitable delays in making bespoke furniture. Ongoing here are several pieces being made from wood from clients' own gardens - which is fun for all concerned.

Back to work!
